In the Spring Issue of the NAMI Advocate, Brian B. Thomas describes what he calls the 3-2-1 principle in his article entitled How the Next Generation Is Approaching Mental Health.
In short, young people are more accepting of three principles:
- It is okay to not be okay
- You are a human being, not a “human doing”
- Work to make a living; do not live to work

In the article, Thomas mentions a program called NAMI Ending the Silence. Although geared toward middle and high school students, this resource, as well as other NAMI resources, are beneficial for all of us.
